Sri Lanka Tours & Transports is a local Sinhala - German tour operator and travel agency based in Habaraduwa - Sri Lanka. All official permits have been obtained and are available. All our services are booked exclusively in Sri Lanka. We try not to use any service providers that operate with foreign participation or are not Sinhala owned.
Our credo
Tourism is an important economic sector in Sri Lanka and contributes significantly to the gross domestic product. The promotion of Sinhalese-run tourism facilities not only supports local practices, but also empowers the local population. The involvement of local providers creates jobs and increases the income of local people.
And let's be honest: no one knows their country, the people and the insider tips as well as the inhabitants themselves.
That is why every booking - even if it is inconvenient - is made directly in Sri Lanka. Each of your travel days will be discussed directly with the service providers, guides and drivers involved.
Who is Sri Lanka Tours & Transports?
Behind this are Neel and Jens. Neel is the manager and creative head of Sri Lanka Tours & Transports. He has been a driver and guide in Sri Lanka for many years and has built up a very good reputation with many tour operators. There is no one he does not know. In Sri Lanka you will be looked after by him, among others.
Jens - your contact person in Germany - is a travel agent and has been working in the industry for over 35 years. He has been to Sri Lanka several times and knows the commerce of other providers and their product planning. He has already tested, hiked, experienced and felt many highlights.
You will be supported and accompanied by a small, permanent Sinhalese-German team. We make sure that our guides and drivers have all the necessary licenses and only build on good experience.
A frank word
Sri Lanka is not perfect. Please don't expect a standard that you know from perfectly organized tourist destinations. Of course there are hotels where you will be served your blue cheese, your mascarpone and your Dom Pérignon. Sure, you can be chauffeured around in a Land Rover on your private tour. But this is not Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is rather sleepy, handmade, familiar and delicious. Each of our guides and drivers will show and explain their Sri Lanka to you. And with heart and soul. And so the idea of designing tours with this in mind was born.
You will also meet many self-appointed guides and drivers in Sri Lanka. A proliferation that is unfortunately getting out of hand. On the other hand, Sri Lanka is experiencing an economic crisis and this has led to "creativity among visitors".
Our tours and services
Everything is modular. Only private tours are produced. So we can customize each tour according to your wishes. All our tours and arrangements can start and end at any address in Sri Lanka. We try to organize as many local experiences as possible. For example, we always book the train rides in third class. This way you can enjoy the train ride experience because you will quickly come into contact with local passengers. You also have a better chance of getting a seat in an open door to experience the passing scenery in complete relaxation. This is much more intense than in the glazed panoramic compartment in first class.
Another example: The guide or driver may invite you to their home for a short time. Whether you accept the invitation is up to you. However, the invitation comes from the heart.
We try to organize all our jeep safaris longer than three to four hours. The fact is that it is always calculated from/to the hotel and by the time you arrive at the entrance, some of your safari time has already elapsed. On the short safaris, this means that you will see the "jeep population", but will probably only be able to observe a few animals intensively. So we stay longer in the parks to give you a great safari experience.
You can stop at any time on overland journeys. If you see a great motif or feel like a coffee break: go ahead. We often avoid the highway. We know the highways well enough.
And so there are many small details - which when booked locally - will lead to great experiences.
