Anuradapura

Anuradapura is one of the oldest and most important cities in Sri Lanka. The city was once the capital of the kingdom of Anuradapura and played an important role in the history of the country. Today, Anuradapura is an important cultural and religious center that attracts thousands of visitors every year. The history of Anuradapura dates back to the 4th century BC, when the city was founded by King Pandukabhaya. In the centuries that followed, Anuradapura grew into a thriving metropolis known for its magnificent palaces, temples and water basins. The city was the center of Buddhism in Sri Lanka and is home to some of the most important Buddhist sites in the country.
